Dr Santino Severoni

Dr Santino Severoni is a medical doctor, health economist, epidemiologist and experienced system manager, who has over 24 years of experience as an international senior technical advisor and executive. He has worked for governments, multilateral and nongovernmental organizations, and foundations in eastern Africa, central Asia and Europe.

During his professional career, Dr Severoni has dedicated his work to global health with a particular focus on health sector reforms, health system strengthening, health diplomacy, aid coordination/effectiveness, management of complex emergencies and, since 2011, coordinating the public health aspect of migration for WHO/Europe.

Since 2013, Dr Severoni has lead the Public Health and Migration programme in the Division of Policy and Governance for Health and Well-being at WHO/Europe. In 2018, he supported the Assistant Director General in establishing the WHO Special Initiative on Migration and providing technical inputs to the Global Compact on Refugees and the Global Compact for Orderly, Safe and Regular Migration. At the regional level, he led and coordinated the development of the first WHO report on the health status of refugees and migrants in the European Region.

Dr Severoni has written many scientific articles and book chapters, and has given interviews and participated in various television and radio broadcasts related to public health aspects of migration, both on Italian and international networks.
