Crown Princess of Denmark to address health ministers at the European Region’s annual meeting

Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess Mary of Denmark addresses delegates at the opening of the 68th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe.

Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess of Denmark will address the 69th session of the annual WHO Regional Committee for Europe on 16 September 2019, in her capacity as WHO/Europe Patron.

This marks the 9th occasion that The Crown Princess will speak before ministers and high-level delegates at the European Region’s annual governance meeting.

Her Royal Highness, Patron of WHO/Europe since 2005, has advocated for WHO’s work in a number of areas, most notably maternal, child and adolescent health as well as health promotion and disease prevention in areas including immunization and antimicrobial resistance.

This year’s Regional Committee will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark from 16–19 September. Important topics on the agenda include reviewing the progress and lessons learned from the Health 2020 policy framework, discussions on advancing health equity, improving health literacy and using organizational and technological innovation to strengthen primary health care.

This will also be Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab’s last Regional Committee in her capacity as WHO Regional Director for Europe. The election of her successor will take place during the Regional Committee session.
