Public Health Wales publishes an International Health Strategy 2017–2027
Public Health Wales has developed and published an International Health Strategy 2017–2027 with the vision of building a globally responsible, world leading and inspiring public health agency, achieving a healthier, happier and fairer Wales. The mission of the Strategy is to maximize the impact of international and global health engagement and partnership in order to protect, improve and promote health and well-being and reduce health inequalities within and beyond Welsh borders.
The International Health Strategy and its priorities, objectives and actions are to be implemented across the whole organization and public health workforce in Wales, by each directorate and division, as well as in collaboration with key national and international stakeholders.
In line with the organizational Strategic Plan, international work for Wales over the next 10 years will be shaped by 3 strategic priorities, namely to:
- Maximize applied international learning and support innovation for public health;
- Develop globally responsible people and organizations;
- Strengthen the country’s global health approach.
These priorities are supported by 6 strategic objectives, including:
- strengthening and developing networks and partnerships;
- facilitating change and innovation;
- establishing international reputation and visibility;
- ensuring sound governance and coherence;
- supporting capacity-building and sustainability; and
- promoting an enabling environment and a culture of global citizenship.
The Strategy has been developed through a wide consultation process, supported by a literature review and mapping of international work and collaborations across the organization. It supports the successful delivery of the national role, strategic priorities and well-being objectives of Public Health Wales, contributing to the implementation of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act.
The International Health Strategy will be delivered through an implementation plan, which will include monitoring, evaluation and reporting, along with sound governance and accountability structures and processes.
