Erica Richardson, PhD

Dr Erica Richardson is a Technical Officer at the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies based at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She holds a PhD and master’s degree in Russian and east European studies, and a bachelor’s degree in Russian language and literature, all from the University of Birmingham.

As well as following developments in the United Kingdom, Erica has a particular brief for monitoring health systems in eastern Europe, the south Caucasus and central Asia, and is the Health Systems in Transition (HiT) editor for many countries in this region. Her research focuses on the development of health systems and health policy in the countries she covers, as well as equity issues. Erica joined the Observatory team in October 2005 after working as a Research Fellow at both the University of Sheffield and the University of Birmingham, where she still holds an honorary post in the Centre for Russian, European and Eurasian Studies.
