Willy Palm is Senior Adviser at the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies. He is responsible for developing and implementing the organisation’s dissemination and communication strategy and coordinating evidence support to partners and policy makers. As a trained lawyer specialized in European social security law, his areas of interest and expertise are situated in the fields of patients’ rights, cross border health care and cooperation, health insurance and financing as well as the broader impact of EU integration on health systems. For the Observatory he has been organizing and leading policy dialogues in many European countries on various health systems related issues. He is editorial advisor of Eurohealth and sits on the advisory board of the European Health Forum Gastein. Before joining the Observatory in April 2006, Willy was the Managing Director of the International Association of Mutual benefit societies (AIM) and also worked in the Belgian health insurance system. Before that he was an academic researcher affiliated to the KU Leuven Institute for Social Law.
