Cross-border hospital collaboration in border regions - mechanisms and motivations

Cross-border collaboration is often set up to improve patient access but it also serves the needs and interests of local actors. The geographic and demographic characteristics of many border regions mean that referring patients abroad or sharing health professionals makes sense, but as the 7 case-studies show, hospitals in border regions remain firmly embedded in domestic health systems.
