Dr Maggie De Block, Minister of Social Affairs and Public Health of Belgium, made an official visit to WHO/Europe on 2 March 2015. The visit was organized to discuss the continuing exchange of technical information and collaboration between Belgium and WHO in coming years, and how WHO/Europe could assist the new Minister at national level. Dr De Block met Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe, as well as senior WHO staff.
Dr Jakab thanked the Minister for Belgium’s continuing close collaboration with WHO in many areas, such as its commitment to health system strengthening, specifically coordinated/integrated care and future health service delivery. She also thanked the Minister for the strong ongoing presence of Belgium on global and regional governing bodies.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the Regional Director to explain WHO’s work and priorities, as well as the different levels and specialized offices and centres of WHO, including the WHO Representation to the European Union, and the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, both located in Brussels, Belgium.
Making reference to Health 2020, Dr De Block underlined her commitment to the strategy and, in particular, her appreciation for the targets developed. She also requested further information on the outcomes of WHO’s health financing work.
