European ambassadors briefed on Regional Committee agenda

Ms Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe, today briefed European ambassadors to Denmark on the agenda for the sixtieth session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe. The Regional Director explained her vision of better health for Europe, achieved through a strengthened leadership role for WHO/Europe, and WHO/Europe’s work to develop a health policy to improve health outcomes and reduce inequities, based on strong partnerships.

Other issues on the Regional Committee’s agenda include the European environment and health process, health in foreign policy, partnerships for health, WHO financing, and eradicating poliomyelitis and eliminating measles and rubella in the WHO European Region.

Representatives of 23 embassies and missions to Denmark were present at the briefing. Ms Jakab will brief country missions in Geneva, Switzerland on Friday, 3 September. The sixtieth session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe will take place in Moscow, Russian Federation on 13–16 September 2010.
