WHO Regional Director visits Armenia
Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe, visited Yerevan on 26–27 April 2016, at the invitation of Dr Armen Muradyan, Minister of Health of the Republic of Armenia.
During 2 intensive days, Dr Jakab met with officials from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Assembly (the Parliament) and the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office to discuss achievements and issues relating to cooperation between WHO/Europe and Armenia; she also outlined ways of strengthening future collaboration.
Dr Jakab was also received by the President of Armenia, Serj Sargsyan. During the meeting, the Regional Director presented an overview of WHO country operations, regional initiatives and global health issues. The President of Armenia expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation between WHO and Armenia and gave his full support to sustaining operations at country level for improving the health of the Armenian population.
During her visit, Dr Jakab was accompanied by Dr Tatul Hakobyan, acting Head of the WHO Country Office in Armenia and Dr Egor Zaitsev, the newly appointed Head of Office.
