World Health Day 2011: Health Champion
On the occasion of the World Health Day, the award ceremony for the selected Health Champion was organized by the Department for Health and Veterans of the Zagreb City Authority. The Champion title went to the psychologist Ljubica Uvodić Vranic. This award was presented to her by the Deputy Mayor Pavicic Jelena Vukicevic at the central event on the Flower market in Zagreb.
Congratulating the winners, Deputy Mayor pointed out that psychological help is more and more important in our stressful times, and that Mrs. Uvodić Vranic, through the work of her association "Friday at 5", helped many people and contributed to improving their health.
In fact, Champion of Health is granted to a person from everyday life, whose actions and encouragment led to positive steps towards a healthier lifestyle in their community. The winner is chosen on the basis of a Champions of Health public call for proposals,announced by the City Department of Health and Veterans, and selected by the special committee. Dr Antoinette Kaic-Rak, Head of the WHO CO in Croatia, was a member of the committee this year.
As part of the World Health Day celebtration on the Flower Market, citizens were offered the expert advice from physicians, measurement of their blood pressure and body mass index as well as free massage.
Another announced activity for the WHD 2011, disposal of unused and expired medicines, is still ongoing from 7 April till 31 May.
