Croatia to host First Regional Ministerial Conference on Organ Donation and Transplantation
On 4 June 2012 the Ministerial Conference "Heart to the Region − Beating Towards Self-sufficiency” will take place in Zagreb, Croatia. This Conference will be held back-to-back with the 29th meeting of the South-eastern Europe Health Network (SEEHN) on 5-6 June 2012.
Croatia is hosting this Conference in recognition of the importance of urgent action and the call for strong leadership and joint political commitment of the SEEHN countries, which are currently facing great challenges in the field of organ donation and transplantation, a highly demanding and challenging area of public health.
The aim of the Conference is to engage SEEHN health ministers and policy-makers to provide political support and strong commitment to further develop and strengthen the implementation of successful organ donation and transplantation programmes based on the WHO Madrid Resolution recommendations, WHO guiding principles, the Istanbul Declaration and the European Union Action Plan on Organ Donation and Transplantation.
The conference further aims to facilitate exchange and dissemination of good practices and experiences in the Region that can be essential in supporting SEE countries in advancing development of public health and socio-economic progress.
