Successful Cyprus EU Presidency meeting of Chief Medical, Chief Nursing and Chief Dental Officers
In the context of its presidency of the Council of the European Union, Cyprus held on 9 and 10 October 2012 in Nicosia the joint meeting of Chief Medical, Chief Nursing and Chief Dental Officers.
Hosted by the Ministry of Health of Cyprus, the meeting focused on the topic “Primary Health Care: An innovative, multidisciplinary approach” and was opened by the Ministry’s Director General.
The plenary session began with an introduction on the Health systems in Transition series (HiT) and the presentation of the new HiT 2012 of Cyprus by Willy Palm and Mamas Theodoru.
The keynote speech by Mr Martin Seychell, Deputy Director General of DG SANCO, explained the European Union perspective on the meeting’s topic whereas the keynote speech by Dr Hans Kluge, Director of the Division of Health Systems and Public Health, on behalf of the Regional Director of WHO/Europe, heralded the WHO European perspective.
Dr Hans Kluge and Mrs Christine Beerepoot, Senior Adviser on Primary health care of WHO/Europe, participated in the sessions of Chief Nursing Officers (CNO) and delivered presentations on ”WHO perspectives on strengthening nursing and midwifery in the European region” and “Innovative nursing approaches for healthy ageing”.
At the conclusion of the CNO session, the importance of WHO’s presence and strengthening collaboration was expressed.
