Member States meet to plan 10th anniversary of Tallinn Charter

A core group of Member States convened at a side-event on 26 May 2017, during the Seventieth World Health Assembly, to discuss preparations for a high-level technical meeting in 2018, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the Tallinn Charter.

This core group is tasked with steering the process leading up to the 10th anniversary conference and ensuring that the perspective of Member States is reflected in the programme.

At the side-event, Member States agreed on the proposed themes of the conference, which will focus on “Health systems for prosperity and solidarity: Leaving no one behind”. The identified themes are:

  1. Include: ensuring access and financial protection for everyone
  2. Invest: improving health systems investment to maximize returns
  3. Innovate: transforming health services and systems to meet people’s needs.

Earlier at the Seventieth World Health Assembly, Estonia announced its commitment to host the 10th anniversary conference in Tallinn on 13–14 June 2018.

The Tallinn Charter: Health Systems for Health and Wealth, adopted in 2008, provides guidance and a strategic framework for strengthening health systems in the WHO European Region.
