Chairman of Georgia’s Parliamentary Health Care and Social Issues Committee convenes high-level meeting on new tobacco law
Dr Akaki Zoidze, Chairman of Georgia’s Parliamentary Health Care and Social Issues Committee, convened a high-level meeting to take stock of the ongoing preparations for the entry into force of the country’s new tobacco control law in May 2018. Dr Zoidze invited WHO/Europe and the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control Secretariat as international experts.
The meeting’s key messages were clear and action-oriented. As little time remains before the legislation is implemented, Georgia must work in a multisectoral manner to maximize efficiencies and success. Efforts to build understanding of the new law among the general public and businesses to promote compliance before implementation are vital.
WHO/Europe and the WHO Country Office continue to provide extensive support to key national partners responsible for the law’s entry into force next spring.
