Strengthening social determinants of health in Hungary
The State Secretariat for Health of the Ministry of National Resources of Hungary and the World Health Organization will work jointly in the coming years to support the local government in order to strengthen the local capacity to address the social determinants of health and health inequity (SDH/HI) through strong and coherent intersectoral government action. As a first step of this collaboration, WHO/Europe, WHO Country Office, Hungary and the State Secretariat for Health of Hungary convened a half-day capacity building on 15 November 2011 for local decision-makers.
The capacity building was facilitated by Dr Erio Ziglio, Head of the European Office for Investment for Health and Development of WHO/Europe. The forum participants shared their experiences in a very lively debate and jointly discussed several key elements of good governance and practical tools to measure and strengthen governance of SDH/HI.
A series of professional consultations in the coming years will continue with the aim to include health equity aspects into the local development plan addressing the needs of the hard-to-reach groups, and to improve the integrated, coherent policy decision making for effective inter-sectoral cooperation.
