Hungary celebrated European Immunization Week for the seventh consecutive year on 22–27 April 2013 with a series of events and programmes to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination. The Week kicked off with a press conference on 22 April, during which Dr Zsofia Pusztai, Head of the WHO Country Office in Hungary, introduced the initiative and gave an overview of current vaccine coverage in the WHO European Region.

Dr Marta Melles, General Director of the National Center for Epidemiology, presented the Hungarian situation and talked about the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases in the country, with a particular emphasis on measles.

The central event of European Immunization Week 2013 in Hungary was the 19th National Training Course on Immunization, which took place 25-27 April 2013. It was organized for healthcare and public health workers to increase their knowledge on the topic.

European Immunization Week in Hungary received wide television and social media coverage and both Dr Zsofia Pusztai and Dr Marta Melles were interviewed by several media channels.2013
