Kazakhstan takes important step to adopt pictorial health warnings

WHO
On 31 March, the Senate of Kazakhstan voted for the use of pictorial health warnings on all tobacco products. As a party to the WHO FCTC, Kazakhstan has pledged, through Article 11 (and Guidelines), that it would implement a range of measures, including adopting strong health warnings on tobacco products. Final approval is pending approval by the President within the next two months. This is a great accomplishment for Kazakhstan, as well as the Eurasian sub-region (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation), who are expected to reach a sub-regional decision about pictorials in Spring 2011.
