Family doctors in Tajikistan receive public recognition

Five family doctors in Tajikistan received the award of  “My best family doctor – 2011” in a ceremony held on 13 April 2012. A total of 122 participants had taken part in the competition, which collected patients’ votes from 29 June through 31 December 2011.

Winners were chosen based on votes submitted to the weekly newspaper “Arguments and Facts/Health. Tajikistan”.  Awards were granted to Mr Mukhammad Gulov (Deputy Director of Republican Study, Clinical Centre of Family Medicine), Ms Mukaddas Madaminova, Ms Dilafruz Sattorova (Deputy Director of Khatlon oblast study, Clinical Centre of Family Medicine), Mr Mirzoahmad Kholov (Doctor-in-Chief of the Rural Health Center of Yavan region), Mr Ozodi Karomatullo Pulotov (Shahrinav Health Centre).

The initiative was conducted with the financial support of the WHO Country Office in the Republic of Tajikistan and UNGFATM in Tajikistan and organized by the Ministry of Health and the Editorial Board of “Arguments and Facts/Health. Tajikistan”.

The purpose of this initiative was to promote family medicine in the country. The competition provided the opportunity to raise awareness of important health system objectives, such as involving the population and informing them (through mass media channels) of preventive measures, increasing the capacity of family doctors, and motivating the doctors to increase the quality of medical services, treatment and care.
