Schoolchildren participate in drawing contest on World Water Day

To mark World Water Day, which is celebrated on March 22 around the world, the WHO Country Office and Oxfam collaborated with the Department of Education of Rudaki District to organize a series of information and education activities. In line with this year’s theme “Water and Food Security”, the aim of the activities was to increase awareness and strengthen the knowledge of people living in Rudaki on water and health issues.

On 16 March 2012, WHO and Oxfam organized an open lecture class for schoolchildren in grades 1-4 at three different schools in the District. The classes were conducted with participation of WHO and Oxfam representatives, who provided information materials, such as leaflets, brochures, booklets and publications on safe drinking water, sanitation, hygiene and food security issues.

A drawing contest for the children was also announced, focusing on the topic of water. Prizes for the best drawings were awarded by WHO and Oxfam on 30 March 2012 at the Department of Education of Rudaki District.

The International Water Secretariat plans to conduct the same activities in the Kanibadam region of Sodg Oblast, as has been done by CESVI in Khovaling District.
