Tajikistan marks World Tuberculosis Day

Radio talk show for World Tuberculosis Day

In line with the annual celebration of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, the WHO Country Office in Tajikistan, together with the Republican TB Center, Ministry of Health, and development partners, organized a public awareness campaign.

Activities included a marathon radio talk show conducted on 24 March 2012. The day-long show, in which listeners were invited to discuss issues related to TB with a WHO representative, was broadcast on Russian and Tajik radio programmes.

A special exhibition of information, education and communication materials produced by WHO, UNGFATM and Project Hope was also organized by WHO in the Tajik State Medical University (TSMU). Students, clinical interns and professors of TSMU actively participated in sharing their skills, knowledge and information on TB.

An activity that drew broad public attention was a concert organized by UNGFATM in cooperation with WHO, USAID (Quality Health Care Project) and Project HOPE.  Through participation of a famous Tajik pop singer, the organizers aimed to increase public awareness on the global epidemic of TB and efforts to eliminate this disease.
