Tajikistan marks World Tuberculosis Day

In line with the annual celebration of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, the WHO Country Office in Tajikistan, together with the Republican TB Center, Ministry of Health and development partners, organized a public awareness campaign in the week of 24 March 2013.

Activities included a marathon radio talk show on 26 March, in which listeners were invited to discuss issues related to TB with WHO representative Dr Pavel Ursu and Dr Sayohat Hasanova (WHO Country Coordinator on TB, HIV/AIDS at the WHO Country Office in Tajikistan). The day-long show was broadcast on Russian and Tajik radio programmes.

A special exhibition of information, education and communication materials was produced by WHO, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (UNGFATM) and  Project Hope. Presentation of the USAID Quality Health Care project was also organized by WHO in the national complex Kohi Vahdat. During this exhibition, a special programme was organized including a concert and active exchange of information on TB among students, clinical interns and professors of Tajic Medical University.

Through participation of a famous Tajik pop singer, the organizers aimed to increase public awareness on the global epidemic of TB and efforts to eliminate this disease.
