Tajikistan participates in UN Road Safety Week

Children display pedestrian stickers distributed at the summer camp

A summer camp for school children and TV and radio programmes on road safety were part of the Road Safety Week activities in Tajikistan. July 1-7 is marked as the United Nations Global Road Safety Week.

Leading TV channels in Tajikistan broadcast programmes and promotional videos to increase awareness about road traffic injuries and importance of road safety.

In addition, Voice of Dushanbe (Sadoi Dushanbe), one of the national radio channels, broadcast special programmes in both Russian and Tajik languages. Representatives of the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan and of Automobile Inspection took part in these radio programmes. 

A dedicated summer camp was organized in School No 42 of Dushanbe city, where 8 schools participated in fun activities dedicated to the Road Safety Week. Representatives from the Automobile Inspection unit of the local police informed the schoolchildren about the basic pedestrian rules, the importance of seat belts and organized a special contest.

The WHO Country Office distributed reflectors and stickers for pedestrians, leaflets and other educational material.
