Health system assessment contributes to stronger response to NCDs in Tajikistan

The results of an assessment of health system features and innovations for better noncommunicable disease (NCD) outcomes were presented at a roundtable meeting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on 27 November 2013.

The joint study conducted by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and WHO sought to accelerate health gains in the management and control of NCDs through development of actionable policy recommendations on human resources for health, pharmaceuticals, social determinants of health and patient empowerment.

Preliminary findings and recommendations were discussed by representatives of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan, Tajik Postgraduate Medical Institute, Evidence Based Center of Tajik State Medical University, Republican Centre of Medical Statistics and Information and development partners. Together they identified key priorities for joint efforts to tackle NCDs in Tajikistan.

WHO implemented this activity within the framework of the European Union funded "Technical Assistance in Support of Health Care Reform in Tajikistan" project.
