Joint annual review of Tajikistan´s national health strategy
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection, in cooperation with the WHO Country Office, in Tajikistan and development partners convened a joint annual review meeting on 3 December 2013 in Dushanbe, to review implementation of the National Health Strategy 2010–2020 (NHS).
Over 200 representatives from key ministries and agencies, educational institutions and universities, nongovernmental organizations, head of state and private health facilities from the region and development partners, participated in group and plenary sessions leading to a draft action plan for 2014 and a meeting Resolution on progress and difficulties experienced in 2013.
In opening remarks, Minister of Health Dr Salimov highlighted the role of external support for the country's reform agenda and how it is contributing to the sustainability of the health sector. The Minister thanked all development partners for continuously providing support and assistance, noting specifically WHO's assistance in the preparation of analytical reviews that facilitate policy dialogues. He stressed that both strengthening the health system and working towards universal health coverage, as envisioned in the European policy framework Health 2020, are high on the country's agenda as a means to achieve better health for everyone.
Additional keynote speeches were given by Ms Bobokhojaeva, Presidential Office of Tajikistan, and Mr Zuev, United Nations Resident Representative/Resident Coordinator. Presentations on overall achievements and challenges in implementing the 4 NHS components (governance, health service delivery, resource generation and health financing) were provided by Dr Jobirova, First Deputy Minister of Health and Dr Ursu, WHO Representative/Head of the WHO Country Office.
