World Health Day marked by climbing up foothills of Kopet Dag
On 7 April Turkmenistan celebrated World Health Day. According to tradition, this day was marked by the mass climb along the Path of Health – a concrete footpath 36 km long, which was built in the foothills of Kopet Dag mountain to the south of Ashgabat on the initiative of the first president of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov, in 2000. Deputy prime ministers of Turkmenistan, leaders of the Mejlis, ministries and departments, public organizations, members of the National Movement Galkynysh, heads of the diplomatic missions accredited in the country participated in the climb. Students of higher education establishments and professional schools, sports schools, representatives of state organizations and public associations of Ashgabat and participants in the first national games also participated in an 8-km run. At the finish line, the action continued with competitions in various sports, musical performances and a feast.
