Laboratory experts attend biorisk management training in Turkmenistan

Participants receive training in biorisk prevention and control in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Within the Pandemic Influenza Preparedness (PIP) Framework, WHO/Europe organized a biorisk management training course on 13–15 December 2016 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

The training’s target audience included laboratory experts from national, central and regional clinical and sanitary-epidemiological service laboratories directly involved in the management of biosafety and biosecurity. Its main objective was to train these specialists in biorisk prevention and control in public health laboratories.

Participants learned a methodology for identifying and controlling biosafety and biosecurity risks in their laboratories. This was based on assessment, mitigation and performance components of the biorisk management system.

The PIP Framework supported the training as part of a project aimed at strengthening the capacity of laboratory services to minimize potential biological risks and the threat of the spread of infectious diseases in laboratories.
