Official ministerial visit from Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Regional Office
A ministerial delegation from Bosnia and Herzegovina visited the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe on 5–6 October 2016 to discuss future collaboration.
During the visit, a Biennial Collaborative Agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and WHO/Europe for the years 2016–2017 was signed by Mr Adil Osmanovic, Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe. This document sets the priorities for collaboration, the budget and the commitments of both the health authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the WHO Secretariat.
Dr Jakab outlined the key policy directions of WHO/Europe’s work, including WHO reform. The delegation from Bosnia and Herzegovina met with all the division directors, who described the work of WHO at both regional and country level. Dr Claudia Stein, Director of the Division of Information, Evidence, Research and Innovation, presented an assessment of the health situation and trends in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which were compared with overall trends in the European Region.
The main topics of discussion during the visit included:
- cooperation for improved reporting on health data and indicators to WHO;
- drafting a national strategy on health; and
- forthcoming health reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In addition to the Minister of Civil Affairs, the members of the delegation were: Dr Vjekoslav Mandic, Minister of Health of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Dr Dragan Bogdanic, Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Republika Srpska; Dr Andja Nikolic, Head of Department for Health and Other Services of Brcko District, Bosnia and Herzegovina; Dr Drazenka Malicbegovic, Assistant Minister of Civil Affairs of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina; and Dr Goran Cerkez, Assistant Minister of Health of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
