Mr Andreas Lykourentzos, Minister for Health of Greece, hosted a high-level meeting on 10 April 2013 to discuss an expanded role for WHO/Europe in the health care reform process in Greece and the governance and financing arrangements for technical assistance. This technical assistance is funded by the European Union (EU) through an agreement between the Greek Government and the European Commission, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank.

WHO/Europe was invited to become a member of the Health Reform Steering Committee and an expanded role for WHO was explored, beyond its usual normative and technical role, in the financial implementation of the Health in Action Roadmap.

The high-level meeting concluded with the signing of a Letter of Intent by the Greek Minister for Health, the Secretariat General for coordination at the Greek Prime Minister’s office, WHO/Europe, the German Ministry of Health and the EU Task Force for Greece to accelerate the implementation of the Health in Action Roadmap.
