Kick off implementation of WHO European Action Plan for Strengthening Public Health Capacities and Services
The International Network of Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services (HPH) has announced that the WHO European Action Plan for Strengthening Public Health Capacities and Services will be implemented in their HPH Global Strategy. This new strategy was presented during the end of year Governance Board meeting in Frederiksberg hospital in Copenhagen.
The 10 essential public health operations will be translated in 4 priority areas on a global level. The European Action Plan is the starting point and other WHO Regions such as EMRO and PAHO will also be consulted on their perspective regarding the Global Strategy.
The first presentation held by the Estonian Board member, explained the promotion of health programs in Estonian municipalities hospitals.
In the second presentation, the Senior Advisor on Primary health care of WHO/Europe conveyed the key messages of the Health 2020 policy, with a special focus on the public health Action Plan and the developments on the primary health care issues in integrated health systems.
The HPH network was told to be largely expanding and aiming at receiving their 1000th member in 2013. In addition, it was mentioned that the network has (aside from its MoU with WHO Europe) a new memorandum of understanding with the Southern Eastern European Health Network as well as with the ENSH Global Network for Tobacco Free Health Care Services. The HPH will further establish a memorandum of understanding with the International Hospital Federation.
Finally it was heralded that Hans Kluge, Director of the Division of Health Systems and Public Health of WHO/Europe, will be presenting a keynote speech on the international HPH conference in May 2013, in Gothenburg.
