Workshop on self-assessment of the essential public health operations in Kyrgyzstan

WHO

A workshop to discuss the process of a self-assessment on essential public health operations (EPHOs) took place on 16 December 2015 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Participants were mid-to-senior level experts in the public health system and the Primary Health Association in Kyrgyzstan.

The workshop, facilitated by the WHO Country Office, provided the opportunity to discuss, build consensus on and plan the EPHO assessment process. Participants discussed:

  • specialized teams for the 10 EPHOs
  • the Steering Committee
  • key milestones of the process
  • next steps.

Dr Venera Maitieva, Head of Department of Public Health, Ministry of Health, expressed strong commitment to the self-assessment process, expected to start in early 2016.

Background

As a follow-up to a previous meeting on public health services strengthening held in Kyrgyzstan in March 2015, WHO/Europe provided a series of policy recommendations based on the health assessment framework. One of the recommendations was to initiate the self-assessment of EPHOs using the WHO/Europe self-assessment tool.

This workshop on public health services and technical assistance is part of the activities envisaged under the biennial collaboration agreement between WHO/Europe and Kyrgyzstan in 2014–2015.
