UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs adopts HIV resolution
The central policymaking body within the United Nations system dealing with drug-related matters reaffirmed their commitment to the targets of the 2011 political declaration on HIV/AIDS among people who use drugs, in particular the target to reduce HIV transmission among people who inject drugs by 50 per cent by 2015. This is also in line with the European Action plan for HIV/AIDS 2012-2015.
The resolution also calls for implementation of the revised WHO, UNODC, UNAIDS Technical guide for countries to set targets for universal access to HIV prevention, treatment and care for injecting drug users.
The resolution recognizes other health issues that people who use drugs are particularly vulnerable to, such as viral hepatitis and tuberculosis.
