Joint ECDC/WHO meeting on European HIV/AIDS surveillance
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the WHO Regional Office for Europe jointly coordinate the surveillance of HIV and AIDS in Europe. On 22 May 2014, ECDC and WHO/Europe jointly convened a meeting on European HIV/AIDS surveillance in Dubrovnik, Croatia, covering the 53 countries of the WHO European Region.
The main meeting objective was to discuss the results of a pilot project to revise European HIV/AIDS surveillance and receive country feedback on its feasibility and implementation. The meeting also presented 2012 European HIV/AIDS surveillance data and discussed experiences regarding monitoring of the HIV treatment cascade at country, regional and global levels. Countries recommended WHO and ECDC to move ahead with the revision implementation and to work further on the outputs to be derived from the revised dataset.
Generally, the meeting provided an excellent platform for sharing of country experiences, technical discussions, networking and confirming the fruitful collaboration between WHO and ECDC and within the long-standing European network for HIV/AIDS surveillance.
