Mid-week summary of European Immunization Week 2014
European Immunization Week (EIW) began on 22 April 2014, with a flurry of blog posts, tweets and public awareness activities scattered throughout the Region. Most prominent among those who have expressed their support for immunization and the EIW initiative are WHO Regional Director Zsuzsanna Jakab and Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, Patron of the Regional Office.
Much of the attention this year is focused on measles and rubella, diseases that the European Region has committed to eliminate by 2015. A framework for verification of elimination was launched yesterday to help guide this process.
EIW campaign site
Descriptions of country activities and guest blogs have been posted on the EIW campaign website. This interactive site is a meeting point where focal points from participating countries and other stakeholders can share information on and discuss their EIW activities and immunization more broadly.
The campaign site now has over 350 members, including EIW focal points, WHO experts and partner organizations, and those with a general interest in immunization.
