WHO training course strengthens immunization programme in Azerbaijan
Experts of the International Children’s Centre, WHO Collaborating Centre on Immunization Training, based in Ankara, conducted a training in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 10-14 November 2014 to support implementation of an Immunization in Practice course at medical colleges and to initiate introduction of mid-level management (MLM) training modules into national immunization programme guidelines and the curriculum of state medical educational institutions.
25 epidemiologists, immunologists, paediatricians and medical college lecturers from the cities of Baku, Ganja, MIngechevir and the districts of Absheron, Lenkaran and Imishli participated in the training, which provided them the opportunity to share experiences and refresh their knowledge and skills on:
- vaccine and supplies management
- the cold chain
- injection safety
- surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases
- supportive supervision
- partnering with communities.
Since 2009, WHO in collaboration with the International Children’s Centre, has conducted several sub-regional MLM training courses for immunization programme managers. In 2012–2013 MLM trainings were also conducted in the Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
