WHO project receives World Bank award
In February 2009, the World Bank recognized WHO/Europe’s work to improve the diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB), including the use of microscopes in laboratories and drug-sensitivity testing. The award acknowledged WHO’s “leadership, technical excellence and partnership” in preparing and implementing a project for TB/AIDS control in the Russian Federation.
The project team from the WHO Country Office, Russian Federation took part in the award ceremony on 18 February.
Over 40 projects were submitted to the World Bank for consideration, covering such areas as knowledge products, investment, and monitoring and evaluation work. The winning projects demonstrated high innovation, solid implementation and sustainability.
