European TB Laboratory Initiative (ELI) core group members selected

ELI will have a core group of eight members who will function as an independent, technical advisory and support group to WHO and partners. The selection committee, consisting of representatives from the Global Laboratory Initiative (GLI), Global Health Advocates (on behalf of the European TB Coalition) and WHO/Europe, evaluated all applications received in response to the call for membership of the ELI core group. The evaluation was based on technical expertise, working experience, constituency background and geographical distribution. The following eight individuals have been selected to represent the core group of ELI:

  • Sabine Ruesch-Gerdes, Head of the National Reference Center for Mycobacteriology, Forschungzsentrum Borstel, Borstel, Germany, WHO Supranational Laboratory
  • Evgeny Sahalchyk, Scientific Officer, Institute of Microbiology and Laboratory Medicine Gauting, Germany; WHO Supranational Reference Laboratory
  • Mehriban Seyfaddinova, Deputy Head of the National Reference Laboratory, Research-to-practise Institute for Pulmonary Disorders, Baku, Azerbaijan
  • Marina Shulgina, Leading Researcher and Head of the Laboratory Department, Saint-Petersburg Research Institute for Phthisiopulmonology, Saint-Petersburg, the Russian Federation
