Scientific working group consults on blueprint for new models of TB prevention and care

A scientific working group, composed of technical experts, discussed the development of a ‘blueprint’ for improving models of tuberculosis prevention and care in eleven countries of the eastern European and Central Asian region, at a meeting in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 22 and 23 September 2016.

This was the first meeting of the working group on models of care. Participants explored a conceptual framework including new approaches to the financing of TB services and strategic planning of human resources. Peoples’ needs, access to integrated services and financial protection are among key principles of the approach.

WHO/Europe, the Global Fund to fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the Center for Health Policies and Studies, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, TB Europe Coalition (TB-EC) and the Stop TB Partnership are partners in the TB-REP project to support countries to tackle TB and multi-drug resistant TB through a health systems strengthening approach.
