Strengthening cross-border collaboration on malaria elimination, November 2010
In October 2010, an inter-country meeting between Tajikistan and Afghanistan took place in Kurgan-Tjube, Tajikistan, with the aim to strengthen cross-border collaboration on issues of malaria elimination and control. A joint statement on malaria elimination between the Ministry of Health of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Health of Afghanistan was thoroughly discussed, and WHO/Europe, WHO/EMRO and the Global Fund/Tajikistan took part in the discussion. At present, the two countries work together to develop a plan of action to be implemented in border areas. A follow-up meeting to discuss future plans is to be organized in Afghanistan in 2011.
In November 2010, a cross-border meeting on malaria elimination among took place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Country officials from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan along with representatives from WHO/Europe and the Global Fund/Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan attended the meeting. The meeting was supported technically and financially by WHO/Europe and the Global Fund. A joint statement and plan of action for malaria elimination was discussed and agreed upon.
