Evidence and data

Evidence: environmental burden of disease studies

The environment is responsible for as much as 24% of the total burden of disease, which could be prevented through well-targeted interventions.

Data: the European Environment and Health Information System (ENHIS)

To reduce hazardous environmental exposures and their health effects, reliable information is necessary to set priorities for action and to evaluate its effectiveness. Member States have acknowledged this need throughout the European environment and health process and echoed it in all major policy statements.

WHO/Europe established ENHIS to supply the required information. ENHIS gathers data from different sources to calculate core indicators and hosts topic assessments at regional level.
