Ms Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe and Professor Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, Minister of Health of Serbia met on 12 December 2012

Professor Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, Minister of Health of Serbia, met Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe, on 12 December 2012 for discussions focussing on implementing Health 2020 and continuing work on the health of Roma and socially-excluded groups.

Professor Dejanovic expressed her support for Health 2020, the European Policy for health and well-being, and explained that it would help the Government prioritize activities during the economic crisis, as well as focus on improving health and reducing child mortality among the Roma population. With support from the Serbian Parliament, the country could pilot the implementation of Health 2020. During the discussions the Regional Director described those developments as ‘very encouraging’.

The Minister also requested further support from WHO/Europe in reforming Serbia’s health financing system.

Serbia is introducing a new immunization calendar, and WHO/Europe offered its support to the national programme working to ensure continued high vaccination rates and to assess measles and rubella coverage.

The Ministry of Health will host the next Environment and Health Ministerial Board meeting in April 2013.
