New members introduced at the 6th meeting of the European Environment and Health Ministerial Board in Madrid, Spain, 24 February 2015
At the sixth meeting of the European Environment and Health Ministerial Board (EHMB), hosted by Spain’s Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality in Madrid, members discussed a road map highlighting a proposed approach to define the future political priorities for environment and health in the European Region, which will be at the centre of the sixth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, to be convened in 2017.
In her opening remarks Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe, stressed, “Environmental risk factors are still responsible for more than 25% of the global burden of disease. With the European Environment and Health Process we are at a crucial stage. We have achieved a lot, and now we have to maintain the momentum, boost political commitment and analyze how we can further improve the success factors together. The EHMB has a crucial role to play in this process.”
Four new members of the EHMB assumed their seats.
