Health 2020 and Phase VI of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network

The recently adopted Health 2020 will provide the framework for Phase VI (2013-2018) of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network. Health 2020’s strategic objectives include reducing inequality and better governance. Healthy Cities and local communities provide a key role in helping member states achieve the targets set by Health 2020.

The debate at the WHO Regional Committee featured Governor O.A. Kuvshinnikov, Vologda District Russian Federation who delivered a strong message and gave visibility on behalf of Healthy Cities. Representatives from WHO’s 53 European member states were in attendance.
 
The Healthy Cities secretariat will begin work with the Advisory Committees and expert advisors in agreeing the core themes for the Phase VI framework and the transition for cities and National Networks to Phase VI.
