United Nations declare access to clean water and sanitation a human right, Water Protocol is a key tool to implement it
The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution recognizing access to clean water and sanitation a human right. The Assembly urged its Member States as well as international organizations to offer funding, resources and technology to assist poorer countries provide accessible and affordable clean drinking water and sanitation for everyone. This objective is closely linked to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
WHO/Europe supports the attainment of the human right to water, sanitation through its work within the WHO/UNECE Protocol on Water and Health. The Protocol, the first major international legal mechanism for the prevention, control and reduction of water-related diseases, is a key tool to deliver access to clean water and sanitation to all.
