Best practice awards to 18 European prisons

At the Health in Prisons Programme network meeting on 4-5 October, 18 European prisons received an award for best practice which aims to share and support good practice in prison health across Europe. The awards are in 3 categories:

  • Best practice regarding health care services provided to prisoners
  • Best practice regarding prevention, health education or health promotion services provided to prisoners
  • Best practice which demonstrates effective cooperation between a prison and the outside community in the are of health improvement

Examples range from multicultural integration programmes, improving nutrition of prisoners, needle and syringe exchange programmes, to gardens and recycling schemes.
