WHO supports training for breast cancer screening radiologists in Belarus
The capacity of radiologists in Belarus has been strengthened during a 2-day practical training workshop, "X-ray aspects of breast cancer screening". Organized by WHO and the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the workshop was held at the N.N. Alexandrov National Cancer Centre of Belarus for Oncology and Medical Radiology, in Minsk, on 11–12 December 2017.
During the training, more than 30 radiologists from all regions of Belarus were able to undergo performance self-assessment in accordance with the international online testing platform “Performs”, which is currently used by radiologists involved in breast cancer screening at the National Health Service (NHS) England. Participants were also provided with practical training and feedback on performing ultrasound-guided biopsies.
The workshop was carried out within the framework of the BELMED project: “Preventing noncommunicable diseases, promoting healthy lifestyle and support to modernization of the health system in Belarus, 2016–2019”. BELMED is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Ministry of Health of Belarus in collaboration with WHO, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
