Kyrgyzstan observed World Health Day by organizing free measurement of blood pressure in big supermarkets and shopping malls around the country. The theme for World Health Day in 2013 is high blood pressure, also known as raised blood pressure or hypertension.

The Ministry of Health launched an information campaign in health facilities to generate awareness about prevention and control of high blood pressure. Special activities were organized at primary health care facilities and conferences for cardiologists and health professionals.

The WHO Country Office in Kyrgyzstan joined hands with the Ministry of Health in organizing these awareness events. The ministry also organized a discussion with different ministries and development agencies on the draft of a proposed national programme on non-communicable diseases.
