World Health Day 2016 activities in Albania

In collaboration with a number of partners, the WHO Country Office in Albania observed World Health Day through various events involving health professionals and authorities, the media and members of the public from all age groups.

The Ministry of Health of Albania decided to use World Health Day to introduce new equipment bags for primary health care doctors to the health community of the Fier region. This initiative is part of the "Health for All" project supported by the Swiss Embassy in the regions of Diber and Fier. The Minister of Health, Mr Ilir Beqja, together with the WHO Head of Country Office in Albania, Dr Ledia Lazeri, a representative of the Swiss Embassy, Ms Debora Kern, and the Mayor of Fier, Mr Armando Subashi, called for more health promotion, advocacy and prevention activities.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, partners like the Agency of Parks and Recreation at the Municipality of Tirana, the Albanian Diabetes Association, the Albanian Red Cross, the Institute of Public Health, the Regional Education Directorate of Tirana and WHO organized a series of open air activities held at Tirana Lake Park. Different tents were organized around children, youth, adults and older people for activities including blood sugar and body mass index measurements, the promotion of healthy food, guided reading on good nutrition practices, a puppet theatre and a children's concert.
