Follow-up meeting on the 2008 Tallinn Charter
17–18 October 2013, Tallinn, Estonia
- What are the most innovative lessons on strengthening health systems learned from the 2008 Tallinn Charter: Health Systems for Health and Wealth?
- What future efforts to strengthen health systems does Health 2020 bring?
The new European policy framework, Health 2020, has reaffirmed the importance of strong health systems to achieve its aim: “to significantly improve the health and well-being of populations, reduce health inequalities, strengthen public health and ensure people-centred health systems that are universal, equitable, sustainable and of high quality”.
In light of these challenges, the 2013 meeting in Tallinn is intended to take stock of Member States’ efforts to strengthen their health systems in response to the 2008 Tallinn Charter, and share innovative initiatives that have helped to transform health systems in the WHO European Region. In addition, the meeting will serve as a platform for identifying directions for strengthening health systems in coming years.
