Meeting of the WHO European Subregional Measles and Rubella Laboratory Network

This meeting on strengthening the WHO European Subregional Network of National Measles and Rubella Reference Laboratories brought together representatives of the measles-rubella reference laboratories from Member States of the WHO European Region, focusing on the subregion of Russian Federation and newly independent states.
The goal of the meeting was to exchange data on recent progress towards achieving the European regional measles-rubella elimination goal both from WHO and country perspective, primarily focusing on data reporting quality and laboratory-based surveillance.
The meeting facilitated a review of the network laboratories’ performance and strengthened collaboration within the Network in pursuit of the measles and rubella elimination goal. It provided a platform for sharing facts – including recent genotyping information. Country experiences and challenges were discussed, as well the lessons learnt regarding local procurement and shipment in the subregion.
Invited participants included representatives from the Regional Reference Laboratory in Moscow, Russian Federation, and from measles-rubella national and subnational reference laboratories in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
