Subregional meeting for measles/rubella national reference laboratories from western and central European Member States
5–7 May 2014, Helsinki, Finland
The objective of this meeting will be to:
- present updates and exchange information on recent progress towards the European regional measles/rubella elimination goal both from WHO and country perspective, primarily focusing on accreditation issues and laboratory contribution to annual country reports for the Regional Verification Commission for Measles and Rubella Elimination;
- provide a training opportunity on the measles nucleotide surveillance (MeaNS) and rubella nucleotide surveillance (RubeNS) databases, in order to support the intensification of measles and rubella molecular epidemiologiy surveillance;
- discuss challenges and strengthen the commitment of the national reference laboratories to the WHO European regional goal for the elimination of measles and rubella.
Experts from WHO national reference laboratories in 35 Member States are expected to attend, along with representatives from regional reference laboratories (Robert Koch Institute and the Centre de Recherche Public de la Santé – a WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Measles Infections), a Global Specialized laboratory (Public Health England), the Finnish Ministry of Health, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and WHO.
